How Our Artificial Grass Installation Works
Artificial grass installation is the process of preparing a site, laying a porous sub-base, and fixing premium synthetic turf to create a long-lasting, low-maintenance surface that looks and performs like natural lawn.
Turf Green has supplied and installed artificial lawn (previously known as the brand AstroTurf or fake grass) in many locations around Brisbane and SE QLD.
- Site assessment — We visit your property, assess the ground, drainage, and access, and provide a written fixed-price quote.
- Site clearance — We remove existing vegetation and prepare the ground surface.
- Sub-base installation — We lay a 65mm bed of porous crusher dust. Where deeper filling is needed for a smooth finish, we add a layer of high-quality road base beneath the crusher dust, compacted to 50mm to form a level surface free of dips and hollows.
- Turf installation — We lay the synthetic grass and pin it in place with galvanised pins to prevent rusting.
- Power brushing — We carefully power-brush up the fibres in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
- Final inspection — When correctly installed, the artificial turf looks and feels similar to traditional grass lawn. We walk the job with you before we leave.
Most residential installations are completed in 1–2 days, depending on size and complexity.
Commercial projects vary depending on site size and access.

Residential Installation
Artificial grass for homes is becoming more popular. You can save hours of mowing, weeding, and watering time and enjoy your weekends again with artificial turf installed at your residential property. Enjoy lower water bills and avoid muddy feet and paws from your furry friends.
We can install turf:
- Around homes and pools
- Median strips
- Apartment rooftop gardens
- Pet kennels & enclosures
- Backyard putting greens
- Backyard tennis court or cricket wicket
Common Scenario
One of the most common jobs we do is replacing a shaded or poorly draining backyard where natural grass has repeatedly failed to establish. Once the synthetic lawn is installed, the family has a mud-free, year-round green space that requires nothing more than an occasional brush down.

Commercial Turf Installation
We work directly with commercial organisations, landscapers, architects and builders to provide large savings on lawn maintenance and to increase the usable space of the property.
We can install turf at:
- Sporting clubs
- Tennis courts, Cricket wickets
- Centres, Schools & Playgrounds
- Around office buildings
- Courtyards, Rooftops
- Putting greens
- Marinas, Pools, Wet Areas
- Commercial Pet kennels & enclosures
Commercial clients we have worked with include Redland City Council, Trinity College Beenleigh, Toowoomba Council, Toowoomba Grammar School, Wesley Mission Group, Guppy's Early Learning Centres, and many more.
Is professional installation right for you?
Best for: Commercial sites requiring compliance-grade surfaces, residential jobs over 20sqm, sloped or uneven ground, areas around pools, and anywhere a guaranteed finish and warranty matter.
Not ideal for: Very small trial areas where you want to test a product before committing, or property owners who enjoy DIY projects. In that case, see our DIY artificial grass supply options.

| High mowing and watering costs eating into weekends and budget | Residential synthetic lawn installation | Zero mowing, zero watering — hours and hundreds of dollars saved annually |
| School playground with worn, unsafe grass surface | Commercial synthetic turf installation with soft-fall compliance | Durable, compliant play surface — safer for children, lower ongoing maintenance |
| Commercial property with high foot-traffic areas destroying natural turf | Commercial synthetic turf installation | Hard-wearing surface that handles constant use without deterioration |
| Pool area with slippery wet surrounds and patchy lawn | Synthetic turf installation around pool | Non-slip, drainage-ready surface — safer and better looking year-round |
| Backyard too small or shaded for a natural putting green | Backyard putting green installation | Playable, realistic putting surface — usable any time, no maintenance |

Our Artificial Grass Products
You can see and feel the difference between our quality products compared to cheaper alternatives in the market. When you are looking for synthetic lawn that looks and feels as near to natural as you can get, and that will last for years, there is no comparison.
Turf Green's quality synthetic turf is great value for money and we will match any comparable product quote.
There are modern synthetic lawn options to suit every application, from light residential traffic areas to the hardest punishment that a sporting club or school can dish out. And unlike the old style synthetic turf, you won’t get grazes, scratches or carpet burns from our grass. It is soft underfoot, yet long-wearing.
Our turf complies with requirements for 'soft fall' surfaces where required around playground equipment and children's play areas.
Why Choose Artificial Grass Over Natural Turf?
- Long-lasting: Synthetic turf can last for decades with minimal upkeep.
- Low maintenance: All you need is a broom to periodically lift the pile and remove leaf litter. No mowing, no watering, no weeding.
- Get your weekends back: Enjoy your outdoor space instead of maintaining it.
- Ideal for difficult areas: High traffic zones, heavily shaded spots, or areas where natural turf won't establish.
- Pool and waterfront friendly: Great drainage qualities and helps reduce slips and falls on wet surfaces.
- Pet and child safe: Our range includes soft-fall compliant options suitable for play areas, kennels, and enclosures.
- Drought proof: No water restrictions will affect your lawn.
- Water bill savings: Eliminating lawn watering typically saves Brisbane households hundreds of dollars per year.
“After 20 years managing golf courses across South East Queensland, the thing I see most often with DIY or cheap artificial grass installations is a failed sub-base. People focus on the turf product and forget that what’s underneath determines whether it lasts 2 years or 15. A properly compacted crusher dust base, laid at the right depth, is what gives you a surface that stays level, drains properly, and doesn’t bunch or lift. The turf is the visible part — the base is what you’re really paying for.”

Artificial Grass Installation Service Areas
Turf Green installs artificial grass across Brisbane and SE QLD, including:
- Brisbane Bayside: Capalaba, Cleveland, Redland Bay, Victoria Point, Wynnum, Manly, Birkdale, Thornlands
- Brisbane Southside: Sunnybank, Runcorn, Eight Mile Plains, Wishart, Carindale, Rochedale
- Brisbane Northside: Aspley, Chermside, Stafford, Kedron, Albany Creek, Bridgeman Downs
- Logan: Logan Central, Springwood, Beenleigh, Shailer Park
- Ipswich: Ipswich CBD, Springfield, Ripley, Goodna
- Gold Coast: Southport, Robina, Mudgeeraba, Coomera, Hope Island
- Sunshine Coast: Caloundra, Maroochydore, Noosa
- Toowoomba and surrounds
Brisbane’s sub-tropical climate makes artificial grass particularly well suited to SE QLD conditions. The wet season (November to April) turns poorly draining or shaded yards into muddy problem areas fast — synthetic turf with a properly prepared sub-base handles heavy rainfall and stays usable year-round. During dry periods and water restrictions, there’s no lawn to worry about watering. Coastal suburbs in the Redlands and Bayside areas also benefit from turf’s resistance to salt air, which degrades natural grass in waterfront properties.

“Highly recommend this business to anyone who wants functional, professional, competitively priced synthetic grass, installed. Very impressed with the end result and although rain increased the install time by one day, they did a great job and was well worth waiting for. Looks and feels great underfoot. Artificial Grass Installation — Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much does artificial grass installation cost in Brisbane?
Artificial grass installation in Brisbane typically costs between $35 and $75 per square metre fully installed, depending on the turf product selected, site preparation required, and area size. A standard 50sqm backyard installation is commonly in the $2,500–$4,500 range. Email or call us for a free on-site quote.
2. How long does artificial grass installation take?
Most residential installations are completed in 1–2 days. Larger commercial or sporting field projects may take several days depending on site conditions and size.
3. What's the difference between artificial grass, AstroTurf, and fake grass?
Artificial grass (also called synthetic turf, fake grass, or lawn) is the generic term for all synthetic lawn products. AstroTurf is actually a brand name — one of the original manufacturers of synthetic turf. Today's artificial grass products are far more realistic and comfortable than the original AstroTurf products of the 1960s and 70s.
4. Does artificial grass get hot in summer?
Artificial grass can get warm in direct Queensland sun, similar to other hard surfaces like concrete or timber decking. Modern fibres and light-coloured infills help reduce heat retention. Adding shade structures or selecting a product with heat-reducing yarn technology can improve comfort in peak summer. Talk to us about the best product for your situation.
5. How long does artificial grass last?
Quality artificial grass installed by Turf Green is designed to last 10–15 years with normal maintenance. Our products come with both a manufacturer's warranty and a Turf Green installation warranty. Longevity depends on the product grade, foot traffic, and occasional maintenance.
6. Can you install artificial grass on a slope or uneven ground?
Yes. Turf Green installs artificial grass on sloped and uneven ground in Brisbane. The sub-base preparation process — road base and compacted crusher dust — creates a level, stable surface before turf is laid. We assess all sites before quoting.
7. Do you offer DIY artificial grass supply?
Yes. For those who love a DIY project, Turf Green supplies and delivers artificial turf and accessories across Brisbane and SE QLD. See our DIY artificial grass supply page for product options, delivery areas, and accessories.

Common Mistakes When Hiring an Artificial Grass Installer
- Choosing on price alone: Cheap turf often has a short pile life and poor UV stabilisation. In Queensland's climate, this shows within 2–3 years.
- Not checking installer qualifications: Ask whether the installer is QBCC licensed. Unlicensed operators can't be held to account for poor workmanship.
- Skipping proper sub-base preparation: A thin or poorly compacted base leads to bumps, poor drainage, and early failure. Always ask about sub-base depth and materials.
- Ignoring drainage: Brisbane gets intense summer storms. Your turf and sub-base must allow water to drain freely to prevent waterlogging.
- Choosing the wrong product for the use: Pet areas, sports surfaces, and decorative lawns require different product grades. Talk to us about matching the right turf to your application.

Turf Green was founded by Geoff Bennell, a trade-qualified greenkeeper who spent over 20 years managing some of Queensland’s premier golf courses — including Glades Golf & Spa, Brookwater Golf & Country Club, and Pacific Harbour Golf & Country Club. Geoff built Turf Green on the principle that the same standards applied to golf course turf — proper preparation, quality materials, and attention to drainage — should apply to every residential and commercial installation, no matter the size.
