Pile height is the length of the synthetic fibres, and it affects appearance, comfort, heat retention, and drainage speed. For most Queensland residential applications, 30mm to 40mm is the practical range.
Shorter piles around 20mm to 25mm drain faster, stay cooler, and suit high-traffic areas or sports surfaces well. They look less naturalistic but perform reliably in full sun. Piles in the 30mm to 35mm range give a realistic appearance without the heat retention of longer fibres, and this is the most common choice for Brisbane family backyards, pool surrounds, and entertaining areas. Longer piles of 40mm and above look lush and feel good underfoot. In shaded or partially shaded positions they work very well.
